URGENT CALL TO ACTION: SENATE BILL TO ELIMINATE LICENSURE UP FOR DEBATE
Today (April 9th), the Senate filed an amendment to the Boards and Commissions bill (SF 2385) that would eliminate dietetics licensure.
The bill is on the floor for Senate debate today (April 9th). We need people to reach out to Senators ASAP to request that they vote NO to the elimination of our licensure within SF 2385 and the harmful implications this policy decision would have.
Please reach out even if you are unable to until after the debate. There will be future negotiations on the bill.
This bill would negatively impact:
Public protection against harmful nutrition care by unqualified nutrition practitioners
The ability of dietitians to lawfully practice medical nutrition therapy in Iowa
Access to nutrition care - licensure enables health insurers to identify and credential qualified providers
Ability for Iowa registered dietitians to participate in the Dietitian Licensure Compact, which would streamline dietitians’ ability to provide nutrition care across state lines
Please take a few minutes to: Email your state senator and ask them to vote against any version of SF 2385 that eliminates dietetics licensure.
Attached is a handout about dietetics licensure. Further talking points and resources can also be found here: https://www.eatrightiowa.org/post/call-to-action-protect-iowa-dietetics-licensure-and-board-of-dietetics
