A few facts about myself :

  • I have been an RD for 37 years, working in healthcare, public health (WIC/MCH) and now Extension and Outreach for the last 8 years.
  • I am married to David, we have one grown daughter, Mary, who has served in the Peace Corps.  We have a Century Farm in SW Iowa.
  • I do like to cook and love to bake at Christmas and share the goodies.
  • I am also Hunter Education and 4H Shooting Sports instructor, as well as a volunteer with Pheasants Forever.

 

How did you become interested in dietetics?
I has always been a lifelong interest, starting in high school with an interest in science and food and nutrition.  Doing 4H projects also sparked an interest in nutrition.

What do you enjoy most about being a dietitian?
The opportunity to try new careers and change jobs.  The educational background can lead to many opportunities. 

Do you have any advice for others who want to be successful in the dietetics field?
Follow your passion, the profession of dietetics has infinite possibilities.   You may have to change course but you will find your passion.

What do you enjoy most about your career?
Meeting a lot of interesting people, but changing career paths a couple of times. I know people in health care, in public health, and now Extension and Outreach in Iowa and around the country.
