A few facts about myself :
How did you become interested in dietetics?
I became interested in dietetics when I was in high school and my mom was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Through the process of my mom going through treatments I learned what a dietitian is and how nutrition can really impact our health.
What do you enjoy most about being a dietitian?
The everyday interactions I have with people. I work at Hy-Vee so I get to answer a lot of questions and create some “Ah hah” moments for customers. It is great when they can come up to me and ask a question about a certain product, ask what a whole grain is, or ask which is the best vegetable or fruit. To be able to answer their question and have them put that new piece of knowledge into action is great!
Do you have any advice for others who want to be successful in the dietetics field?
I think being able to take risks, is what I have learned in my career. If you get an opportunity, go for it, be sure to try it. There is nothing we can’t do, with our skill set as a dietitian. The opportunities are endless. Go for it, take that risk!
What is your guilty food pleasure?
I don’t think there is one thing in particular, I like all food. I am a dietitian at heart, so I enjoy all foods in moderation. I don’t feel guilty about the foods I eat, I enjoy them all in moderation.
