A few facts about myself :

  • My favorite saying: “A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove…but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child”. Forest E. Witcraft, Teacher, Scholar.
  • I love going to live theater and attend several shows every year at the Lied Center for the Performing Arts in Lincoln. My favorite musical is “Mama Mia”.
  • I am an Uber driver in my spare time. I always enjoy meeting new people and feel better about keeping the roads safer.

How did you become interested in dietetics?
I started my collegiate career in Pre-Pharmacy but after working at a pharmacy while going to school I decided that pharmacy was not for me. As a child I was sick a lot and had terrible stomach issues which drew me to the dietetics profession. I really wanted to work more with clients/families to be healthy and dietetics is perfect profession to do what I enjoy.

What do you enjoy most about being a dietitian?
I love working with families with young children to help them provide the best start possible. I enjoy the opportunities to teach a wide variety of topics in nutrition from normal nutrition and health to medical nutrition therapy. I really like the community nutrition aspect of my job, working with community partners, completing needs assessments, and developing and completing action plans that strive to empower families to be healthy

Do you have any advice for others who want to be successful in the dietetics field?
Find your passion and feed it daily. It is so important to do what you love to do. For most of us our careers span decades so it is so important to do what makes you happy. Being engaged and happy doing your job is evident to those around you.

What is your guilty food pleasure?
Brownies, they are the perfect treat and can be made in so many ways.
