Hey sports fans, make some noise because this is your month!
Touchdown, goal, assist, corner flag, high stick; whatever your lingo, show your pride by wearing your colors and cheering to show your support! Not a sports fan? You don’t have to be one to show some support and fight for another theme this month; although, keep in mind, this one packs a punch: childhood obesity.
With more than 3 million cases each year in the United States, childhood obesity is larger than it’s ever been. This month think about how these two topics can tie together.
Defeating childhood obesity isn’t an easy match, but with the right tools we can equip ourselves for the challenge and put a stop to it.
The first tool is understanding; knowledge is power and by having a good grasp on what makes up your child’s food is a great start! Read labels and avoid things like processed foods, added sugars, and trans fats. These are all largely linked with obesity.
The second tool is activity; make physical activity with your kids fun and something to look forward to! Don’t just watch football; toss the ball in the backyard. If your child isn’t into sports, go on a walk or get those last minute bike rides in before it’s too cold.
However you choose to fight against this nationwide problem, remember two important things: know what’s in your food and make physical activity a fun activity.
