August is a busy time of the year; it’s time to prepare for back to school; maybe you’re squeezing in a family vacation, and of course it’s the month of the Iowa State Fair!
What you may not know is that August is also Family Meals Month, which falls during a great time of year. We still have the last bit of nice weather that makes for the perfect evening for outdoor dining. For those who attend the Fair each year, it’s not hard to see a big attraction is the food.
Speaking of food, whether it’s deep-fried, drizzled in chocolate, or seared, much of the food you’ll find at the Fair is loaded with calories that can skyrocket you well over the daily recommendation. While we don’t want you to completely avoid Fair foods, we’ve thought we’d help out by listing some useful hints and tricks to controlling calories while navigating the Fair as well as a simple recipe to share with the family around the dinner table.
